Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa

Last weekend, I wanted something fresh and colorful for dinner, so I made these fish tacos with a sweet mango salsa. The combination of flaky seasoned fish, juicy mango, crunchy vegetables, and a squeeze of lime was such a hit with my family.

This is one of those recipes I love making when I want a meal that feels light and summery but is still satisfying. The mango salsa really makes it special!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Fresh, colorful, and full of flavor
  • Tender, flaky fish with a delicious seasoning blend
  • Sweet and tangy homemade mango salsa
  • Easy enough for a busy weeknight
  • Ready in about 30 minutes

Ingredients

For the Fish

  • 1½ lbs white fish fillets, such as cod, tilapia, mahi-mahi, or haddock
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Juice of ½ lime

For the Mango Salsa

  • 1 large ripe mango, diced
  • ½ small red onion, finely chopped
  • ½ red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt to taste

For Serving

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Sliced avocado
  • Lime wedges
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Optional: sour cream or Greek yogurt

Instructions

1. Make the Mango Salsa

Add the diced mango, red onion, bell pepper, jalapeño, and cilantro to a bowl.

Add the lime juice and a pinch of salt. Gently toss everything together and refrigerate while preparing the fish.

2. Season the Fish

Pat the fish dry with paper towels.

Mix the chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.

Brush the fish with olive oil, then coat both sides with the seasoning mixture. Finish with fresh lime juice.

3. Cook the Fish

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Cook the fish for about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until it flakes easily and reaches 145°F (63°C) in the thickest part.

Let the fish rest for a couple of minutes, then gently break it into large pieces.

4. Warm the Tortillas

Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet for about 20–30 seconds per side, or heat them briefly according to the package directions.

5. Assemble the Tacos

Fill each tortilla with shredded cabbage and pieces of warm fish.

Top generously with mango salsa, avocado, and fresh cilantro. Add a squeeze of lime just before serving.

My Tips

  • Pat the fish completely dry before seasoning for better browning.
  • Don’t overcook the fish; it should be moist and flake easily.
  • Let the mango salsa sit for 10–15 minutes so the flavors blend.
  • For extra crunch, add thinly sliced cabbage or radishes.
  • Warm tortillas right before serving for the best texture.

Easy Variations

Air Fryer Fish Tacos: Cook seasoned fish at 400°F (200°C) for about 8–12 minutes, depending on thickness, until it reaches 145°F.

Spicy Tacos: Add extra jalapeño or a drizzle of your favorite hot sauce.

Creamy Tacos: Mix Greek yogurt with lime juice, garlic, and a pinch of chili powder for a quick creamy sauce.

Mediterranean Twist: Use grilled fish with cucumber, tomato, feta, parsley, and a lemon-herb dressing instead of mango salsa.
