Fryer Lemon Garlic Butter Fish!
Fryer Lemon Garlic Butter Fish
Last weekend, I wanted something light, flavorful, and easy enough that I wouldn’t have to spend the whole evening in the kitchen. I pulled out the air fryer, seasoned a couple of fish fillets with garlic, herbs, and lemon, and hoped for the best.
The result was honestly one of those simple meals that feels much more special than the effort involved. The fish came out beautifully tender inside, golden and seasoned on top, with buttery lemon juices soaking into every bite. My family loved it, and now it’s one of my favorite quick seafood dinners.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Ready in about 20 minutes
- Tender and flaky fish with crispy, flavorful edges
- Fresh lemon and garlic add plenty of flavor
- Uses simple pantry ingredients
- Perfect for a light, high-protein dinner
Ingredients
- 2 large white fish fillets, such as cod, haddock, tilapia, or pollock
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp dried parsley
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp salt, or to taste
- ½ lemon, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- Extra lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
1. Prepare the Fish
Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick and encourages better browning in the air fryer.
2. Make the Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, Italian seasoning, parsley, black pepper, and salt.
Brush the mixture generously over both sides of the fish.
3. Add the Lemon
Place the fish in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Arrange a few thin lemon slices on top of each fillet.
4. Air Fry
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if your model requires preheating.
Air fry for approximately 8–12 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. Thicker pieces may need a few extra minutes.
The fish is ready when it flakes easily with a fork and reaches 145°F (63°C) internally.
5. Finish & Serve
Carefully remove the fish and spoon some of the buttery lemon juices over the top. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve with extra lemon wedges.
My Tips
- Always pat the fish dry before seasoning.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
- Cooking time depends heavily on the thickness of the fish.
- Check the fish early so it doesn’t become dry.
- Fresh lemon added after cooking gives the brightest flavor.
Easy Variations
Spicy: Add ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
Mediterranean Style: Add oregano, chopped parsley, and a few halved cherry tomatoes.
Parmesan Crusted: Sprinkle finely grated Parmesan over the fish during the last few minutes of cooking.
Garlic Herb: Add fresh dill or thyme to the butter mixture.
What to Serve With It
I love serving this fish with roasted broccoli, asparagus, green beans, a simple cucumber-tomato salad, cauliflower rice, or roasted potatoes. A little extra lemon over everything brings the whole plate together.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftover fish in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, place it in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes, just until warmed through. Avoid overcooking because fish can dry out quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of fish works best?
Cod, haddock, tilapia, pollock, and other firm white fish work well.
Can I use frozen fish?
Yes, but thawing first generally gives better seasoning and texture. If cooking from frozen, expect the cooking time to increase.
How do I know when the fish is done?
The flesh should be opaque and flake easily with a fork. For food safety, the center should reach 145°F (63°C).
Can I make this without butter?
Yes. Replace the butter with additional olive oil for a lighter dairy-free version.
